Jewish Youth Program Turns Teens into Philanthropists

The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Phoenix created the B’nai Tzedek Youth Philanthropy Program to educate and train teenagers to be philanthropic. The program encourages teens to establish a charitable endowment fund in their name from which they can make an annual donation to a cause of their choice and teaches them about leadership, service, financial literacy, and long-term investment in social good. The participants study philanthropy and local nonprofits, make site visits, and collectively discuss and award grants with the goal of setting them up for a life time of philanthropy. The Lodestar Foundation was an initial funder of the program.
